Location and climate

The main characteristic of the Mediterranean climate is light winters, dry and warm summers. Average air temperature during the year is over 15°C , average air temperature during the warmest summer month of July is 24°C and in the coldest month of January 25°C. The number of days with temperature of 0°C is very low and there are about 16 days during the year with extremely high temperature. Air temperature in the most coldest winter month of January isn't lower than -3°C.

Sunny days are also one of the most important characteristics of the climate of Ugljan and Pasman archipelago. Average number of yearly sunny hours is about 2.500 and in July there are 10-12 sunny hours per day.
The area of the Pašman Island is not exposed to extreme winds. The north-eastern wind locally known as bura blows mostly during the winter season; the south wind locally known as jugo predominates during spring and fall seasons; and the pleasant landward breeze called maestral blows from the west during the summer
It is suitable for sailing and wind-surfing.

Summer and early fall are characterized by nice and stable weather with clear, warm and sunny days. After the stillness of the morning, zmorac or maestral, a landward breeze, starts blowing in the mid-morning hours. It becomes relatively strong in the afternoon. It blows mostly in direction north-west.

Its constant direction and its relative strength make it suitable for sailing. There are only a few other areas in the Adriatic that are as suitable. By bringing along the fresh sea air, it reduces the air temperature during the warmest hours of the day. Maestral usually lasts until late afternoon. The evenings are very still, and at night, a light wind locally known as burin starts blowing from the land. This type of weather is characteristic of 80 % of summer days.

The Northeastern wind, the Bura, is generally a dry and cold wind that blows by fits, by strong blows, or by gusts, and can sometimes reach the strength of a gale-force wind. The bright or clear Bura blows predominantly in winter. The cloudy Bura blows after the Southern, warm, moist wind, the so-called Yugo wind, and is mostly stronger than the one blowing in clear weather. The Southeastern Yugo mostly blows in the colder six months, especially in the period going from the spring to the autumn, and sometimes blows several days in a row, developing huge waves at sea, and is therefore dangerous for navigating.

The cyclone Yugo brings rain, sometimes with thunderstorms, and during the high-pressure, rotten Yugo the sky is mostly clear, the relative humidity moderate, and the air is warm..
